Being a Vegetarian
Transcript
Hi Everyone,
Today is Thursday March 26th.
I hope you are having a good morning. Today I will talk about being a vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian since I was 13 years old. I don’t eat meat or fish, but I do eat dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt. If you are a vegetarian, it’s important to eat protein. Meat and fish have a lot of protein, but I don’t eat them, so I need to find other ways to get protein. Here are some of the foods I eat to get protein.I love lentils. I cook with brown lentils and red lentils and green lentils- all kinds of lentils. I make soup and salads with them. I eat a lot of hummus. Sometimes, I buy hummus and sometimes I make it at home. Hummus has protein because it comes from garbanzo beans. We call these chickpeas. I eat a lot of chickpeas! I love all kinds of beans. I have cans of beans, but I also have dried beans. Greek yogurt, peanut butter and nuts are also good sources of protein. Quinoa is a grain that has protein. I also eat tofu, but I don’t have any in my refrigerator right now. I love to cook vegetarian food. I have many cookbooks. All of these are vegetarian cookbooks! I also look online for recipes and I follow my favorite vegetarian chefs on Instagram. Do you eat any of these foods? What do you usually eat that has protein?
Have a great day!
In this video I use, the simple present tense because I am talking about my routines- foods I usually eat. I also use nouns. Nouns can be countable (beans, lentils, cookbooks, chefs) or uncountable (hummus, milk, protein, quinoa.)
You can watch this video to learn more about count and non-count nouns.
You can also learn more about nouns by reading on Learn American English Online.
If you want to practice writing, visit the Blog page and tell me what foods you usually eat to get protein.
