A. Hi John. How are you? I’m Mrs. Bolton.
B. Nice to meet you.
A. Nice to meet you too. Thank you for coming in. Please have a seat. So, you’re applying for the waiter position, right?
B. Yes. That’s right.
A. Do you work in a restaurant now?
B. No. Right now I work in an office during the day, but I want some more hours at night and on the weekends. Also, I’m thinking about a career change.
A. I see. Do you have experience as a waiter?
B. Yes I do. Last year I worked at an Italian restaurant downtown three nights a week. I was a busboy and a waiter there. I took orders, served customers and cleaned tables.
A. Why do you want to work at this restaurant?
B. I eat here a lot, and I like the atmosphere. The service is always great, and the food is good. I think I can learn a lot about the restaurant business here.
A. Sometimes it is very busy here. Does that bother you?
B. No. I like to be busy.
A. What hours and days are you available to work?
B. I can work at night on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the week. I can also work on the weekends any time.
A. That’s great. Can you tell me a little about yourself? Why are you a good fit for our restaurant?
B. People say I am very friendly and helpful. I love to work with people. I’m also punctual and reliable. I don’t like to be late, and I rarely miss work. I’m energetic too, which is good for a busy restaurant.
A. Can you present and pour wine?
B. No. I can’t, but I want to learn.
A. No problem. We can teach you. Do you have any questions for me?
B. Do I need to wear a uniform?
A. Yes. You need to wear a white shirt and black pants. Anything else?
B. No that’s all.
A. Thank you so much. I am going to interview two more people, and I will call you at the end of the week with my decision.
B. Thank you. Have a nice day.
